New Zealand's renowned all-rounder Doug Bracewell has announced his decision to retire from all formats of international and domestic cricket. The 35-year-old played his last Test match representing New Zealand in 2023.

His decision to retire has been primarily influenced by a persistent rib injury. This injury prevented him from participating in this season's matches representing the Central Districts team. This health issue also kept him away from the cricket field for a significant period recently.

During his international cricket career, spanning from 2011 to 2023, Bracewell played 28 Test matches, 21 One-Day Internationals, and 20 Twenty20 Internationals. The most memorable moment of his career came in his third Test match against Australia in Hobart in December 2011. In that match, he took a total of 9 wickets (including 6 wickets for 40 runs in the second innings), paving the way for New Zealand's first Test victory on Australian soil in 26 years. Overall, he managed to take 74 Test wickets and 46 wickets in limited-overs matches.

Commenting on his retirement, Bracewell stated, "This has been an incredibly proud period of my life. It's been a privilege to live out a dream I've had since I was a kid." He further added that he is eternally grateful for the opportunities he had to represent the New Zealand national team and the Central Districts team.

Doug Bracewell comes from a prominent cricketing family in New Zealand. His father, Brendon, and uncle, John, also played Test cricket. John has also served as a coach for the New Zealand team, and Doug has played in international matches alongside his cousin, Michael Bracewell. Michael is set to captain the New Zealand team in the upcoming One-Day International series in India next month.

In addition to international and domestic cricket, Doug Bracewell had the opportunity to represent the Delhi Daredevils team in the 2012 IPL tournament. He also contributed to several foreign league matches, including the South African league. He holds the distinction of being among the rare players in New Zealand's first-class cricket history to have scored 4000 runs and taken 400 wickets. Bracewell demonstrated excellent all-round performances, taking 437 wickets and scoring 4505 runs with three centuries in 137 first-class matches.
