New record for tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka

A new record for the number of tourists visiting Sri Lanka within a year was set today (December 29). This new achievement surpasses the previous record of 2,333,796 tourists recorded in 2018.




The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority announced that this new milestone was marked with the arrival of the 2,333,797th tourist to the island this morning, surpassing the previous record.

This exceptional achievement marks a critical moment in the nation's tourism industry trajectory, clearly demonstrating Sri Lanka's resilience and renewed confidence as a leading global tourist destination.




The tourism sector continues to be a cornerstone of the Sri Lankan economy. It provides significant contributions to foreign exchange earnings, job creation, and cultural exchange.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority's statement further notes that reaching this milestone despite challenges such as the 'Ditwa' cyclone disaster is an excellent reflection of the strength and unity of the tourism industry and its stakeholders.
