Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe stated that the road accident involving former Speaker and current Member of Parliament Ashoka Ranwala was by no means an intentional act, but rather an unfortunate incident that occurred accidentally, and that he deeply regrets it.
He revealed these facts while addressing the media during his participation in an operation by the Lanka Teachers' Services Union to restore the school system in the Kandy and Matale districts. The Deputy Minister pointed out that three members of the same family injured in this accident are currently hospitalized for treatment, and Mr. Ashoka Ranwala, who was involved in the incident, is also receiving hospital treatment. He also confirmed that he, along with other government ministers and MPs, are personally intervening and looking into providing the necessary medical treatment and other facilities for the child, mother, and other parties affected by the accident.
Against the backdrop of formal instructions given to the police to enforce the law regarding the accident, he strongly criticized attempts by certain media networks, including social media, to disseminate false and fabricated information. Mr. Jayasinghe emphasized that the rumors circulating, particularly that Mr. Ranwala was driving under the influence of alcohol, are completely false, and further stated that the police have full capability to conduct a legal investigation and ascertain the truth if necessary.
