The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that news reports published in several media outlets yesterday, stating that Rs. 3,100 crores are required to restore the damage caused to Sri Lanka due to the impact of Cyclone Ditwa, are untrue.

The Ministry points out that no official estimate has yet been made regarding the damage caused by the prevailing adverse weather conditions or the cost of post-disaster management.

Further clarifying this matter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism states that relevant government departments and state institutions are currently conducting a formal assessment of the disaster situation and the damage incurred. Therefore, the government confirms that the aforementioned financial figures publicized by the media are incorrect.

Nevertheless, during this critical period, the Ministry has taken special measures to expedite the process of providing relief to people affected by floods and landslides. Accordingly, a special emergency coordination unit has already been established with the aim of providing assistance to affected parties and streamlining communication efforts. The Ministry further adds that Sri Lanka continues to receive humanitarian aid and support from the international community.
