Complaints Filed Against Media Channels for Spreading False Storm Information

 Attorney Manjula Kodikara has requested the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to immediately launch an investigation into media channels alleged to have disseminated false information in a manner that incites the public, stemming from the recent cyclonic conditions that affected the island. The lawyer submitted the complaint related to this incident to the Criminal Investigation Department yesterday (10).

The complainant party points out that certain media channels created news stories exaggerating that the government had been informed about this disaster situation on the 12th, thereby working to create a strong sense of provocation among the public towards the government. The complaint also states that this irresponsible media reporting created a risk of disturbing public peace.

Attorney Manjula Kodikara further requested the Criminal Investigation Department in his written complaint to conduct a full investigation to uncover the true motive behind the dissemination of this false news and to identify the individuals or organizations involved.
