An unfortunate incident was reported yesterday (29) evening from Wadatta village, Anamaduwa. A three-year-old child fell into a water-filled toilet pit and died. Anamaduwa Police stated that the child, named A.H.M. Sathis Shenul, died in this manner.
He, the youngest of a family with two children, was staying at his grandmother's house when the accident occurred. Although family members immediately rushed him to Kottukachchiya Hospital, it is reported that the child had already passed away by then.
The child's home is located approximately 100 meters from his grandmother's house, and he frequently visited there to play with his elder sister and others. Police investigations have revealed that while playing, he unknowingly went near the toilet pit and fell into the water-filled pit, leading to this unfortunate incident.
It is reported that the child's parents were away from home for work at the time of the incident. Anamaduwa Acting Magistrate Ms. Deepthi S. Dalugama arrived to conduct a magisterial inquiry at the site, with the assistance of Anamaduwa Police.
The post-mortem examination regarding the child's death was scheduled to be conducted today (30) by the Judicial Medical Officer at Puttalam Base Hospital. Family relatives stated that the child, affectionately known as 'Sudu Bole' (White Ball), had his fourth birthday on January 4th.
