A tragic incident has been reported from the Middeniya area, where an eight-year-old schoolboy died after being electrocuted while attempting to rescue a dog entangled in an unauthorized power line laid across a paddy field.

The child who tragically passed away has been identified as Tikshana Wishwa Anuradha, a resident of Hellala, Middeniya. He was a 4th-grade student at Middeniya Primary School and was 8 years and 10 months old at the time of his death.

Police stated that the accident occurred around 10:30 AM on the 2nd of last month. The student, hearing his pet dog barking from the paddy field behind their house, immediately ran towards it. Initial investigations revealed that the child was also electrocuted while attempting to rescue the dog, which was entangled in the unauthorized power line.

Although steps were immediately taken to admit the student, who was in critical condition due to the electrocution, to Middeniya Hospital, he passed away while receiving treatment there. The electrocuted dog had died at the scene of the incident.

Information has revealed that the unsafe power line was illegally laid by a neighbor of the student to operate a water pump in the paddy field. Middeniya Police have arrested the suspect in connection with the incident, and the student's body has been placed at Middeniya Hospital as further investigations are underway.
