Sri Lankan Man Charged with Murder After Woman Found Dead in Cardiff

A 37-year-old Sri Lankan man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman in Cardiff.

South Wales Police were called to South Morgan Place in Riverside at 07:37 BST on Thursday after reports of a woman with serious injuries.

The victim, Niwunhellage Dona Nirodha Kalapni Niwunhella, 32, known as Nirodha, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after, Thisara Weragalage, of Pentwyn, was arrested on Seawall Road in Splott and later charged with murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Davies extended his condolences to Nirodha’s family and friends, saying:

“My heartfelt condolences are with Nirodha’s family, friends and loved ones. I continue to urge anyone with information who has not yet spoken to officers to come forward and support our investigation.”
