One-Wheel Show-Off Fined Rs. 55,000 for Risky Road Stunt

Kuliyapitiya magistrate issues stern warning to young motorcyclist over dangerous riding

A Stunt That Ended in Court

A young man who attempted to showcase his riding skills by lifting the front wheel of his motorcycle and riding on a single wheel along a public road has found himself facing the consequences. Dasun Shewantha, a resident of Kanadulla in Kuliyapitiya, was fined Rs. 55,000 and sharply reprimanded by Kuliyapitiya Magistrate Randika Lakmal Jayalath.

Recklessness Over Responsibility

The court heard that Shewantha had been riding recklessly, creating loud noise and disturbance, much to the annoyance and concern of the public. The police filed charges under five separate counts: causing public inconvenience, riding with an expired licence, endangering lives, and operating a vehicle without number plates and side mirrors properly fixed.

Shewantha pleaded guilty to all charges.

Police Push for a Strong Message

Kuliyapitiya Police HQ Inspector Kamal Ratnayake told the court that such stunts pose a serious threat not only to the rider but to pedestrians and other road users. He emphasised that motorcycles are two-wheel vehicles designed for balance, not for dangerous performances.

He urged the magistrate to issue a penalty that would serve as a deterrent to other youth tempted to follow similar behaviour.

Court Issues Firm Warning

Magistrate Jayalath agreed, stating that the court would not tolerate irresponsible conduct on public roads. He stressed that roadways are not performance arenas and that endangering lives in the name of thrill-seeking is unacceptable.

The case serves as a clear warning that such antics will be met with strict legal consequences — not applause.
