Thief Disguised as a Doctor



A person who fraudulently posed as a doctor at the Colombo National Hospital and deceitfully took gold jewelry worth one million rupees from a patient's wife has been remanded until the 10th, as ordered by Maligakanda Acting Magistrate Shyamila Sahabdeen.

The suspect, identified as Poonam Christomba’s Shashika Madushanka, a resident of the Anuradhapura area, has been recognized as the main accused in this fraudulent act.

Fake Doctors Advice 

According to the report submitted to the court by the Maradana Police, the incident occurred while the victim's husband was receiving inpatient treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. During this time, the suspect approached the patient and his wife, falsely claiming to be a doctor.

The suspect then informed the complainant that her blood sample needed to be tested and took her to a hospital room. There, he instructed her to remove her gold jewelry, claiming it needed to be taken to her husband. However, after collecting the jewelry, the suspect fled the scene.

Legal Action

Following extensive investigations, the Maradana Police arrested the suspect and presented him before the court, where the Acting Magistrate ordered his remand until the 10th.

Concerns have been raised regarding security lapses at the Colombo National Hospital, which allowed such fraudulent activities to take place. Authorities have emphasized the need for stricter identification measures for hospital staff to prevent similar incidents.

Additionally, discussions are underway to enhance security measures within the hospital premises to curb such fraudulent activities in the future
