Former Speaker WJM Lokubandara passes away
Mr. WJM Lokubandara died at the hospital this evening (14) while receiving covid19 treatment. This is the first time a Sri Lankan politician has died from a corona infection. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the IDH Hospital in Mulleriyawa on the night of the 6th due to his condition's aggravation. Lokubandara, 79, was first diagnosed with coronavirus during a PCR test at a government hospital. He was initially admitted to the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital due to a Covid infection. He was admitted to a leading private hospital on the 3rd for further treatment.
Mr Lokubandara had to be admitted to the IDH Hospital due to the hospital's lack of treatment facilities. Wijamu Lokubandara, who died of the Kovid-19 virus, is one of the country's oldest politicians. He was the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka from 2004 to 2010 and the Sabaragamuwa Province Governor from 2010 to 2015. He was a lawyer by profession and is the author and lyricist of several books.
