How an employee died due to rainwater filling the basement of the building on Duplication Road

An unfortunate death was reported in a building on Duplication Road in Colombo amid heavy rains on Monday (28). A construction worker who was sleeping on the ground floor of the building, which was still under construction, was killed in a torrential downpour that day. The foundation section of the building was flooded with water from the highway.

Completely submerged in water, the ground floor has been submerged in water for up to three feet. It is said that only five floors of the building have been constructed at this time. At the time of the rain, a group of employees staying on the ground floor had escaped from there and had gone upstairs to survive, but they had forgotten this sleepy employee. But then, as the rain continued to fall, his absence was recognized. It was then that they called the police about missing their colleague. When police arrived, they observed the lower part of the building filled with water like a tank. Police and firefighters were called to the man found out about 10-hour operation. Officer in charge of Colombo Municipal Council Fire Unit later said. The fire brigade personnel joined the venue; he said firefighters had laid low water section with two firefighters. An employee of the building was found safely in the water while he was still missing. The deceased has been identified as a 54-year-old resident of Welimada, Paranagama. Kollupitiya police conducted investigations.
