Minister Mahindananda does not appear in court due to COVID fear from Kundasale infected

The case filed against former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and former Chairman of the CWE Nalin Fernando was ordered to be heard by the Colombo Third Permanent High Court on September 03.

The case is being heard today (15). Gurusinghe, Shashi Mahendran and Amal Ranaraja were summoned before a three-judge bench of the High Court.
Defendant former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage did not appear in court today and his lawyer Kanchana Ratwatte told the court that his client had recently participated in the election campaign in the Sa Hewaheta area in Kundasale and that Nisarona patients were now out of those areas.

He will not appear in court today on health grounds.


Nalin Fernando, who has been named as the second accused in the case, was also absent from the courtroom. But did not enter the courtroom.

However, the three-judge panel noted the notice and ordered the case to be recalled on September 3.

The three-judge bench said that the date for the commencement of the hearing of the case would be fixed on that day.

Deputy Solicitor General Azath Nawawi appeared for the Bribery Commission. That said.

The Deputy Solicitor General of the Government informed the court that the computer systems belonging to the National Audit Office and the CWE had been updated five years ago and the computer that generated the documents related to this case could not be located.


The Bribery Commission had filed the case against former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and former CWE chairman Nalin Fernando, alleging that the government had caused a loss by distributing thousands of political activities.

It is reported that 26 persons have been named as witnesses in this case and 15 items have also been named.
