Raththaran who was charged for allegedly abusing Chinese woman ... released on bail

Southern province member of parliament Krishantha Pushpakumara alias 'Raththaran' was accused of having committed gang rape of two charges of two rape cases, one of which is the rape of a Chinese woman and was arrested after 10 months ... and was released on bail yesterday. Both former provincial council member of south, Krishantha Pushpakumara alias 'Raththaran' and his
driver, Withanage Kelum Sameeera alias 'Suda' were subjected to these charges. 

Krishantha Pushpakumara had carved a name for himself among leading politicians in Sri Lanka as an exorcist by keeping in close touch with them and the rape case related to a thirty six year old Chinese woman created a very big uproar recently. This Chinese woman who is supposed to have been raped had come to Sri Lanka in the year 2018 and having got to know the first suspect, the member of parliament had taken lodging at his house for a short period of time and later has taken refuge in a house in Kaluwella in Galle where this incident of rape has taken place. 

The case about the thirty six year old Chinese woman being raped was filed against 'Raththaran' and the driver on May 3rd, 2019 and what 'Raththaran' has said at the court hearing was she voluntarily joined in the sex act. However she later brought out an argument that it was not so. While this case was in progress, a charge was brought against 'Raththaran' for having sexually abused a 14 year old underaged girl. Reports were published that a powerful politician has addressed  Akmeemana police officer in charge over the phone not to oppose Krishantha Pushpakumara being given bail and to let the case slip away. 

Thus in the case of committing sexual abuse the minor ... he managed to get bail swiftly. In the meantime, when the southern provincial council was just about to be dissolved .. he informed that he would be resigning from the provincial council. Further he said that he is free of guilt. On the occasion that the other charge of southern provincial council member Krishantha Pushpakumara alias 'Raththaran' for having abused the Chinese woman on a gang-basis, was brought before court, Galle additional magistrate Mrs. Pavithra Sanjeewani Pathirana, granted a cash bail of Rs. ten thousand and two surety bails of Rs. five lakhs each yesterday (5). Weerasingha Aarachchige Krishantha Pushpakumara alias 'Raththaran' who even functioned as the Mp who supervised proceedings of the education ministry of the provincial council resulted in relevant officers neglecting him being taken into custody because of the political powers he possessed, it was understood. After investigations were brought to a close, its contents were sent to attorney general which was revealed in court, after which both suspects were arrested and produced before court on March 5th, 2020. 

Attorney at law, Mr. Kapila Waidyaratna and attorney at law, Shrimali Wijeyekera appeared on behalf of the suspects. Further proceedings were postponed till 18th. While there was direct evidence in connection with this offence ... the suspect was released on bail.
