"I will be contesting from Badulla from Pohottuwa" -- Oshadi Hewamadduma

Tele-actress Oshadi Hewamadduma has expressed ideas that she has received an invitation to contest at the forthcoming general election. This she mentioned at a video discussion conducted across the internet. 

In the discussion, this is what she says: "This time I will contest the election from Pohottuwa. I am contesting from Badulla. Even before I came into the artiste field .. I had a desire to contest in an
election. A group of artistes was established by the name of 'Sandaliya' and engaged in social service activities. It was with that I stepped on to the stage of politics. But this time I had no idea of contesting as such. Neither did I try to grab an opportunity for it by force. I have in fact got an invitation for this. 

I have never destroyed my image. I got married at 22. Those days actresses did not marry so early. Later as a trend others started putting on the ring. But most of them got divorced and went on to a second marriage. But there was no change where I was concerned. Most people say that I changed the social image of the person called actress. I know how to manage my private life. So I think that even if I engage in politics, I can do it. I have not engaged in full-time politics. But I have a vision. I think that we should do these things. My Oshada plants programme is underway and I make people understand about these things. Let me tell you an example ... I have some ideas and visions to talk about. 

Now ... if it is said that milk powder is poison ... is it right if we refrain from it. We should look for alternatives to it. I recently saw that drumstick leaves have thirty times nutritional value of milk powder. So, like that we ought search for an alternate methodology like that. But can't be boiling drumstick leaves in the morning ... so some alternative must be employed for milk powder where the housewife is concerned .. as a substitute for that nutritional value. What I said in that instance is one of my own ideas.  

In this instance there are 8 electoral seats in Badulla. Pohottuwa will clinch 6 of that 8. UNP will get 2. I am coming for the first time ... with a trust in victory. I am not hoping to become first in the preferential list. But I have a desire to come to parliament. Women in Sri Lanka need not have equal status. The required status is already available. They are at a high level where education is concerned. 

If I go to parliament ... I am not going there to talk about the arts. I will appear on behalf of a common cause. What I like in that respect is misuse of chemicals and indigenous medicine.
