Ceylon broadcasting corporation chairman, criticised as joker ... out from duties 3 days after appointment!

Mr. Rohana Deva Perera who accepted the appointment as chairman of Ceylon broadcasting corporation last week (January 30th) was ousted from that post 3 days after accepting the appointment, government sources say. Secretary of mass media yesterday forwarded the said letter of resignation to Mr. Chandrapala Liyanage, director general of Sri Lanka broadcasting corporation. Government appointments are being made without a scientific foundation while already announced
that that it is done on instructions of Viyathmaga and criticisms were launched about appointing Mr. Rohana Deva Perera as chairman and singer Sanjeewani Weerasingha as a director.

The very first speech addressing his staff in public brings to mind a 'joker', some websites have aimed criticism. Employees of the corporation and several other parties have protested in him being appointed to the position of chairman of Sri Lanka broadcasting corporation and for that reason his appointment has been swiftly reversed, it is understood.

Though Dr. Bandula Gunawardena, minister of information and mass media had appointed Mr. Rohana Deva Perera to the position of chairman under recommendation of the professional committee appointed by president Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa for the purpose of recommending those suitable for government corporations and statutory bodies, because of the speech mixed with humour on accepting his duties ... those aspirations have dissolved. That speech which was criticised as a 'joker' is seen below
