It is reported that attention of Sri Lanka selection committee has been focused on appointing a new twenty-20 captain targeting the twenty-20 world cricket cup to be conducted this year. Cricket sources say that it is imperative that another captain has to be appointed due to the reason that the Sri Lankan team has faced a setback right along though Lasith Malinga is a skillful player.
Of the 13 twenty-20 games that was played under his leadership for the last time, Sri Lanka managed to win only the match with New Zealand played last year. All other 11 matches were lost. The winning percentage of Sri Lanka in the year 2019 was 34.6 as indicated and it is indicated that it was the year when Sri Lanka dropped in the worst manner in the twenty-20 games in the last five years.
The Sri Lanka selection committee has discussed with coach Mickey Arthur in respect of setting up the twenty-20 squad before the world cup. With the defeat experienced in the twenty-20 tournament with India ... Sri Lanka has dropped down to eighth position in twenty-20 gradings. It is of special interest to note that Afghanistan has been able to reach 7th position passing Sri Lanka in the grading list.
