Sri Lanka changes SAG history
Sri Lanka for the first time in history managed to bag 2 gold awards yesterday (8) at the 13th South Asian Games in the wrestling event. It is a speciality to note that both these awards were clinched in women's wrestling event.

Seneviratna won the gold medal from the 72 kilogramme weight class event. Priyanga Kumari won the silver medal in the 62 kilogramme weight class while Udara Fernando clinched the bronze medal for Sri Lanka in the 61 kilogramme weight class.

In the meantime hopes pinned on women's cricket gold medal was not to be realised yesterday while Sri Lanka could boast of winning in the beach volleyball event and that was by winning the gold and silver awards in those events. It was another matter to focus attention on 2 Sri Lankan teams being qualified for the final great contest and in that case Sri Lanka beach volleyball team No. 2 managed to trounce Sri Lanka beach volleyball team No. 1 and thus win the gold medal.
In the case of women's cricket event held yesterday in the South Asian Games contest, Bangladeshi players won the gold medal with a sharp win of 2 points by downing the Sri Lankan women's team. In the meantime, the Sri Lanka Taekwondo team who participated in the South Asian Games returned to the island yesterday. The number of Sri Lankan players who took part this time in the South Asian Games men and women's events in all categories were 29. They were successful in bagging 4 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 16 bronze medals with an overall total of 27 awards. This is the first occasion where 29 players both males and females inclusive represented Sri Lanka and have won 27 awards. Sri Lanka by now have clinched 31 gold medals and placed third position in the awards table.
