Lady officer of Swiss consulate comes out -- Gives statement of 5 hours to CID

The Swiss lady visa officer, Gania Barister Francis supposed to have been kidnapped has given a statement to the CID and has gone away after that. She had arrived at Criminal Investigation Department last afternoon (8). With her, some officers of the consulate office and two attorneys at law had been present with her. The Swiss consulate lady officer has given her statement to the
criminal investigation department for close upon 5 hours. After making her statement, she has been directed to a lady judicial medical officer by the CID, it was reported.

After finishing her official duties she had been on her way back home last November 25th when she was abducted, information was reported. After she notified about this to Swiss consulate office, a complaint was lodged with police. Accordingly, the criminal investigation department commenced inquiries and then they had taken action to report information in the presence of Colombo chief magistrate about the incident concerned.

Whatever it is, this incident was turned into an issue of a political nature by crowds favouring the government by engaging in a protest in front of the consulate office and engage in holding media confrontations about this and on assuming that she would flee the country without making a statement, even her journeys abroad were blocked with an order from courts. The lady who is thus connected to this incident delayed making a statement in this connection owing to reasons of health. Whether the the reason to do so was due to because of the shock she suffered or the sexual harassment she underwent or because of her lack of faith in the Sri Lankan police is not clear.

What former minister Rajitha had said was that a pistol was kept to her mouth and was so threatened. On the event the police explained matters against her in courts, on the understanding that the Swiss consulate was requested to make a statement to criminal investigation department the day before yesterday by Colombo chief magistrate, she has come forward to make her statement yesterday and matters which were revealed on that occasion was not exposed to the media as such. In any case, even before police recorded her statement, about a week back it was the foreign affairs ministry that informed media that there was nothing relevant in the cctv inquiries and that what the visa officer said was contradictory.
