Selections for universities of Z-Score on school level instead of district level
Instead of the criteria adopted by using Z-Score methodology to select students for state universities which operates on a district level minister of education, Dalas Alahapperuma said today that the cabinet approved a new scientific methodology based on schools.
So far, the Z-Score was considered as the criterion for admission to universities on the basis 40 per
cent for skills on district basis, and 55 per cent and 5 per cent for schools in remote areas. Thus in this case instead of the 55 percent district basis, it was decided to create the criterion of selection enabling an opportunity for clever students of every school by abolishing the 55 per cent district-based system and employ a new methodology of a school-based system.

The minister said that the total number schools imparting education upto advanced level in Sri Lanka is 3098 and that in order to admit students to universities so that justice is given to students of those schools the percentage values should be decided accordingly and that the final values in this context would be determined through a committee by calling responsible state institutions and individuals to participate in that connection.
