Records available in police complaint that kidnapped Ganiya was sexually molested ...
The incident of abduction of a lady officer of Swiss consulate in Sri Lanka hs turned into a 'political game' which by creates a diplomatic issue, it has now been identified.
The lady officer alleged to have been so kidnapped is a visa officer of Tamil nationality named Gania Baristor Francis. Having finished her duties she had been on her way home when a certain crowd of people had stopped her saying that they are from the criminal investigation department and that they
wished to question her and had proceeded to transport her in a white-coloured car and that in the process had threatened her and interrogated her and had extracted telephone data by force and in addition had sexually molested her; it is so mentioned in the complaint lodged by the consulate office that day.
wished to question her and had proceeded to transport her in a white-coloured car and that in the process had threatened her and interrogated her and had extracted telephone data by force and in addition had sexually molested her; it is so mentioned in the complaint lodged by the consulate office that day.
After this incident the police media unit has kept silent and it was published for the first time that such an incident took place not over local news but in the foreign news media. Two days afterwards the local police explained the matter saying that it was not officers of the criminal investigation department who came and that CCTV records were being checked in this connection.
When everybody was keeping their eyes open to find a justified investigation would be carried out, an altogether drama has begun to take the stage and what is portrayed by it is that this is being twisted into a political game. When some elements favouring the government are trying to create gain for the opposition, and while are engaged in various roles of acting on this hypothesis, on that behalf former minister Rajitha too is trying to bring out various stories.
In fact it was the foreign ministry who informed media that there was nothing on CCTV footage and that what the victim said was contradictory. The Switzerland state secretary Mrs. Pasqual Beriswill who was aghast at this 'contradictory' story has already taken action in meeting Sri Lankan ambassador in Switzerland Mr. Karunasena Hettiarachchi asking him to explain this 'contradictory' evidence.
The state secretary has assured the ambassador that Switzerland would provide total support to solve the issue that has cropped up according to the legal process. The victimised officer has still not given a statement owing to reasons of health. It then is not clear as to whether the delay in such an instance is because of the shock she sustained or sexual harassment or else because of she has no faith in Sri Lankan police.
What former minister Rajitha has said was some talk about a pistol being poked inside her mouth and being threatened that way. It is of course he himself knows its falsity or veracity. It now is well-known that parties in favour of the government subjected the doubt of this lady officer not giving a statement considers her in a fear of exposing these matters in going to Switzerland and placing before the international stage. Under such conditions the CID has secured an order in prohibiting her in travelling abroad. The said order observes that as others taking action in advance on behalf of the prejudiced party in an instance of a problem concerning the prejudiced party.
In the meantime, major Ajith Prasanna who is expecting nominations for the forthcoming general elections has laid himself near the consulate office and engaged in a solitary fast asking the prejudiced party to come out with a statement without delay. While on higher orders it was limited to 12 hours, what was portrayed in foreign media with photos attached was something akin to Sri Lanka comporting themselves in the manner of decayed besotted politicians of South India. Thus Colombo chief magistrate Miss Lanka Jayaratna yesterday issued an order yesterday (3) prohibiting the lay officer of Switzerland consulate preventing her from travelling overseas till December 9th without permission from courts until she is to give a statement to the CID.
The court order was issued according to a request made by the CID, and senior president's counsel Mr. Janaka Bandara who explained matters in the presence of courts stated that this inquiry has commenced in relation to a complaint directed to inspector general of police across the foreign ministry by the Swiss consulate in Sri Lanka to the effect that the Sri Lankan lady officer attached to the Swiss consulate office was abducted last 25th by a white-coloured car by some group of people and has been questioned threateningly and has even been subjected to sexual molestation regarding issuing visas to inspector of police of the CID Mr. Nishantha Silva who is presently abroad. It was further stated that though officers of the CID have approahed the Swiss consulate office to record a statement from the lady, officers of the consulate office have refused to divulge information about the lady in question and that subsequently when they had inspected her at her home, it was found that there was nobody at her home. The president's counsel then finally mentioned in presence of court that having come to know that the lady's husband was a bank officer the CId had tried to contact him there; however to no avail as he had not reported to work either.
In the meantime the Swiss foreign affairs ministry emphasises that there is no valid reason for a delay in inquiries and that they consider the responsibility over their staff as something serious. By now, it is found that state and private media in favour of the new regime are publishing other news items focusing Switzerland into humiliation and thus instead of the attitude of solving the matter in a diplomatic manner seem to be inclined to play a 'political game'.
