Motor vehicle driven by father strikes lamp-post -- son goes on last journey on second birthday!

A road accident occured early last morning (28) near Ariyasiri junction along Thanamalwila - Wellawaya road in which a two-year old child died while two others have suffered injuries, Wellawaya police say. 

It is Pannalage Anuja Dulsanda the deceased child living in Kithuhena, Ekgaloya, Bulathsinghala and
his second birthday too was yesterday (28). On behalf of that occasion Anuja Dusanda's father, mother, grandmother and a relative brother have been travelling in a motor vehicle to offer an almsgiving to a children's home in Handapanagala proceeding to a house in Kukurampola area when they have met with this accident. 

Police investigations are underway to determine whether the motor vehicle has swerved across the road and had struck a lamp-post because Dulsanda's father had fallen asleep while driving the vehicle. At the moment the accident happened the deceased child had been his mother's lap and on impact of the vehicle striking the lamp-post the child losing grip of the mother had got thrown off and struck the front windscreen, police say. 

The father, grandmother and Dulsanda who were injured were admitted to Wellawaya basic hospital and when the wounded were afterwards transferred to Moneragala general hospital for further treatment, Dulsanda has passed away, a hospital spokesman said. The other two injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital with minor injuries. Inquiry into sudden deaths about the child's death was expected to be conducted at Moneragala district general hospital.
