Since president Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has decided to dissolve parliament in next March, 64 members of parliament would have to forego their pension. In the same way, of those who thus will be deprived of the pension, 24 are of the government party while 34 are MPs of United National Party. 5 MPs of Tamil National Alliance and one from Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna will be in that list.

In order for a member of parliament to claim the pension, an official period of five years have to be completed. The present parliamentary five-year term included in the list of those who were chosen and appointed in the parliamentary election of 17th August, 2015 is to end by August next year. However, according to powers vested from the 19th amendment of the constitution, president Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has already decided to dissolve parliament on the first of next month.

According to the 19th amendment, the president could dissolve parliament after a parliamentary term of four and a half years. If parliament is dissolved next March, Mps who will be deprived of their pension are as follows: Waruna Liyanage, Manoj Sirisena, D.B. Herath, Angajan Ramanathan, Malik Jayatilleka, Anuradha Jayaratna, D.V. Chanaka, Sarathi Dushmantha, Indika Anuruddha, Cader Masthan, Kanchana Wijeysekera, Nimal Lansa, Piyal Nishantha, Prasanna Ranatunga, Prasanna Ranaweera, Niroshan Premaratna, Sanath Nishantha, Sisira Jayakody, Tharaka Balasuriya, Udaya Gammanpila and Wimalaweera Dissanayaka of United People's Freedom Alliance.
