Information close to Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa revealed that he had applied in the month of March 2019 and he had received papers relevant to invalidate his citizenship. However, that name was included in the list of names released by American administration last June and September. On the complaint lodged by professor Thenuwara and Viyangoda, subsequent to an inquiry conducted on their petition, what has been confirmed by now from the court order is only that Gotabhaya is a dual citizen. What is required is a document to confirm his identity that he is a Sri Lankan and that he has been released by America.
Since the latest American list relinquishing citizenship relevant to November 12th does not contain Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's name, suspicions or doubts have cropped up once again. Minister Harin Fernando has left a comment in the Twitter account that according to this document Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is still an American citizen and that if he is appointed to the position of president, he would not be able to hold that position.
In the meantime Gotabhaya's relative son and member of parliament Namal Rajapaksa has left a comment in the Twitter account about his uncle Gotabhaya that there is evidence that the citizenship was squashed and the relevant copy of the document is forwarded below:
"Here is evidence with a reply to the false propaganda launched for a period of time by United National Party regarding the United States citizenship of presidential candidate of Podu Jana Peramuna. To hoodwink the public in the next few days, the United National Party has to find another fib.
