Director of CID Shani Abeysekera receives sudden transfer

The police commission has given a sudden transfer to director of criminal investigation department Mr. Shani Abeysekera this afternoon (21) and has been appointed to a different post as personal secretary of deputy inspector general of police, Galle. The media has not been informed as to the reason for his transfer. 

Shani Abeysekera who was involved in several sensitive investigations related to Prageeth
Ekneligoda abduction, Lasantha Wickrematunga assassination, attacks on Keith Noyar and Upali Tennakoon and Rathupaswala shooting was in fact one of the most skillful officers, it is understood. 

He was someone who won acclaim because of successfully concluding several well-known investigations including the Royal Park murder, Angulana dual murder, the robbery of two crores, the Town Hall bomb blast. After his position was removed today  as director of criminal investigation department senior superintendent of police W. Thillekeratna was appointed as the new director. 

Shani Abeysekera was appointed to the post of director of criminal investigation department in September, 2017; but was able to carry on duties there only for 2 years. According to recommendations of acting inspector general of police, the decision to oust him was directed to police headquarters this afternoon (21), it was reported.
