Commotion at Rupavahini yesterday ...
On a tip off received to the effect that a programme where injustice was being meted out to a candidate within national Rupavahini corporation last night (7), a group of officers of the election office, Colombo and additional district secretary had visited the place when a commotion has flared up.
A supporter of a presidential candidate serving within Rupavahini premises has given a tip off that a group of workers in the said corporation are engaged in preparing a mud-slinging video and that they
could be nabbed red-handed if someone would arrive at that very moment and on his words this crowd had entered Rupavahini premises. Later though they had approached the editing cabin they were not able to come across any such video.

Though entry to the Rupavahini was easily facilitated with police support, these officers who gained entrance ultimately fell into difficulties for having had to come out empty-handed, so to say. The people who detained the intruders have said that on higher orders they cannot be allowed to leave and that action is to be taken for having entered without permission. The employees have accused saying that election officers or others have no authority to video the main controlling cabin without permission and that such a thing has taken place. Thus under these circumstances a heated situation has flared up.
As some employees at Rupavahini corporation had kept these officers under their custody, the latter have informed chairman of election commission, Mahinda Deshapriya after which he had gone there and the officers concerned were escorted out of the corporation premises. Whatever it is, in the end what transpired was that the employees had lodged a complaint with Cinnamon Gardens police to the effect that the referred to crowd had entered without permission and in the process had disturbed their duties. Both parties were subsequently summoned to Cinnamon Gardens police last night (7) and an inquiry was conducted.
