Muthuhettigamage's vehicle receives most damage from accident of 6 vehicles on Southern Expressway

Six vehicles including luxury vehicle in which parliamentarian Mr. Nishantha Muthuhettigama's daughter was travelling in were subjected to an accident yesterday (21) on Southern Expressway at Kahatuduwa Km. 5.9 and a lady has been admitted to hospital after sustaining injuries, Gelanigama police say. Police further say that it is the parliamentarian's daughter who travelled in her company who were injured and vehicles travelling towards Colombo from the direction of Galle were involved
in this accident.

A jeep which struck the left protective railing has then gone across the road and stopped and a luxury motor vehicle has knocked on it when the driver of the motor vehicle in which the MP's vehicle travelled lessened its speed when a bus carrying staff to Sethsirpaya, Battaramulla has struck the rear of the vehicle in which the MP's daughter was travelling and on that occasion that vehicle has swerved to the left-side of the road and subsequently turned, police say. Simultaneously a van and motor car travelling from behind on the left and a motor car had collided with with it and resulted in the accident, police say. With the vehicle in which the MP's daughter travelled had toppled and caught fire in a minor sense in the interior of the vehicle, workers in the bus have extinguished the fire with bottles of water at their disposal, police say. Though there was the driver and a police sergeant of ministerial security division, none of them have been harmed, police say.

As a consequence of this accident, several vehicles which were on its way from Galle towards Colombo had to halt nearby for some minutes. Police further say that the biggest damage was sustained by the motor vehicle in which the MP's daughter travelled in and that the other vehicles have not such damage.

It is understood that the said accident has happened at a time when the parliamentarian was being dropped at a class where she had to attend a certain course of studies.

On instructions of traffic superintendent of Southern Expressway and officer in charge of Southern Expressway Anuruddha Chandrasekera with officer in charge IP Mr. H.V.S Gamini, sergeant Chandana (33407) and Abeynaike Dissanaike (195060 are conducting inquiries in this connection.
