A father who was served indictments by north-central province high court judge Mr. Sahan Mapa Bandara issued orders day before yesterday (22) to be arrested on sight and a rigorous jail sentence  on him to be implemented for having committed a serious sexual offence on his underaged daughter at a time when her mother had gone abroad. 

The punishment was imposed on a 38 year old father living in Kekirawa police division and has been
absconding court for a number of months. The attorney general has filed indictments before Anuradhapua high court to the effect that a serious crime of sexual abuse was committed on the suspect's daughter aged 11 years and 8 months in her house situated in Kekirawa police division on 30th September, 2014 or at a nearby date and is an offence tantamount to punishment under Sri Lankan penal code 364/365.

The accused man's wife when being abroad the accused has on two instances engaged in this act of abuse under the pretence of applying medicine to a rash on the said daughter's chest region. Later the minor has notified this to her aunt and on a complaint lodged with Kekirawa police by phone an inquiry was launched after which the suspect was taken into custody, it was said at the undocumented court hearing held at Kekirawa district magistrate court. 

The accused has avoided court since last March 13th and as such, after the court proceeding was carried on in the absence of the accused the judge who said that the accused is guilty of two indictments filed against him and thus the judge ordered a jail term of twenty years of ten years each to the accused father concerned. Apart from the jail sentence, the high court judge imposed a fine of Rs. twenty thousand as per ten years and that if the money is not deposited a jail term of 2 years rigorous imprisonment was ordered. Other than that it was ordered to pay Rs. two lakhs as compensation to the victimised daughter and that if the money is not paid, a further rigorous imprisonment of 24 months was imposed. 

At the time the defence appeared before court attorney at law Mr. Buddhika Lewke Bandara appeared on his behalf while senior state counsel together with police sergeant M.H.M.J. B. Iriyagolla (15096) of high court legal operations unit of Kekirawa police on the rights of the victimised girl.
