What can be done after opening of Nelum Kuluna -- still not available
Nelum kuluna which is considered as the tallest telecommunication tower in south Asia will be opened today (16) at 5 this evening by His Excellency the President Mr. Maithripala Sirisena. All members of parliament have been invited on this occasion, it is reported.
As the construction of the tower was delayed for several years, several millions had to be settled to a
bank in China while on immediate opening of the tower all intended facilities programmed to the public however are not available, it is reported. Sri Lanka telecommunication regulatory commission say that they have not decided so far about the methodology of providing transmission of digital television and radio broadcasts across Nelum Kuluna. Though Nelum Kuluna has been designed in a manner that the Japanese system or European system could be utilised; so far no action has been taken where that aspect is concerned. There still is no radio services or a preparations made to transmit services from there. Some period of time is needed to provide television services or radio services across Nelum Kuluna.
Nelum Kuluna which commenced construction in the year 2012 is concerned as the tallest telecommunication pillar in south Asia and its height is 356 metres. Designing and construction activities have been carried out with a cost of 104.3 American dollars and a sum of 67 million dollars has been given as a overseas loan facility by Exim Bank which is a national bank of China. The balance cost has been borne by Sri Lanka telecommunication regulatory commission.
