Heavy showers throughout island -- alerts about landslide risks
Department of meteorology say that there could be rainfall in western, sabaragamuwa, wayamba, central and southern provinces for over 100 - 150 millimetres. Police have informed that Armour and Barber Street junction in Kotahena police division have been flooded. As a consequence, there has been a traffic congestion. Police further say that it was not possible for other than heavy vehicles, other vehicles have found it difficult to move in those areas. As a result of heavy showers several areas have been covered by the waters. Because of this situation, disaster management centre has
taken steps to alert warnings about landslides in those areas. Accordingly, national building research organisation have sent out warning alerts to four districts. These alerts were sent out to provincial secretariat divisions such as Eheliyagoda, Ambagamuwa, Bulathsinghala, Kiriella, Kalawana, Warakapola and Matugama.

Because of being covered by waters, most roads as well as several low lands have gone under water as a result of heavy rain. Nortonbridge police say that with the heavy rainfall coming down on western slopes in central hills from last night (15), 2 large trees and a landslide was experienced along Ginigathhena - Nortonbridge route resulting in transport coming to a total halt. It is reported that activities of removing the two large trees and other obstacles were commenced by Nortonbridge police and Norwood road development authority.
