It is understood that the issue between Prime Minister Ranil Wickrmasingha and minister of housing Sajith Premadasa has by now reached a complex situation. It is reported that Ranil nominates Karu Jayasuriya's name instead of Sajith. In the meantime Sajith organising a rally to flaunt his powers has resulted in displeasure of Ranil. It is reported that Prime Minister has thrown a dinner party for all parliamentarians tomorrow
(23) night at Araliyagaha Mandiraya. It is informed that this dinner function has been organised on behalf of the past period of 4 years since the incumbent government came into power. Though it is heard that discussions about future procedures of United National Party  are to take place, what other political sources say is that this invitation of Ranil Wickremasingha has been sent out when a rally is being organised on Friday (23) evening in Matara by United National Party deputy leader, Mr. Sajith Premadasa to record that he has more powers than Sajith.

Sometime back a rally was organised in Badulla with minister Harin taking the main seat inferring 'Let us make Sajith the President' while the rally this time is organised with Mangala occupying the main seat. Of the seventy five MPs who represent United National Party, over fifty have participated in the cordial get together held day before yesterday (20) under leadership of Sajith Premadasa, some newspapers have reported. This discussion has taken place at a house belonging to a sister of state minister Sujeewa Senasingha, down Barnes Place. It is understood that nine ministers and United National Party backbenchers including ministers such as Kabir Hasheem, Ranjith Maddumabandara, Mangala Samaraweera, Malik Samarawickrema, Thalatha Athukorala, Gayantha Karunathillaka, Chandrani Bandara, Mohommed Haleem and Rishad Badiudeen.

In the meantime, even former provincial council MPs had unanimously decided day before yesterday (20) that minister Sajith Premadasa be nominated as Presidential candidate of the United National Party. This discussion was convened at a hotel in Thalawathugoda area under the leadership of minister Sajith Premadasa. 123 former provincial council MPs who represented United National Party and 97 MPs joined in this discussion.

As such, political resources have reported that who the Presidential candidate this time could be the moment which could measure the strength from the meetings held tomorrow (23) by Sajith and Ranil separately.
