"There could be a delay in listing those who renounced American citizenship" -- Ambassador Alaina

President candidate of Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's name not appearing in the August list of those renouncing American citizenship came in for discussion recently. On an inquiry made by media in this respect, what American ambassador, Alaina B. Teplitz said yesterday (19) was that the federal register could be months behind the recording of one's renunciation of citizenship. Therefore his name could appear in a later register. At the same time it was informed that she mad this comment unofficially. She has made this comment at her home at an inter-active session with a select group of journalists and it was
reported in today's Daily Mirror newspaper.

What she indicates is that renouncing citizenship is an administrative procedure and that those asking for renunciation of citizenship is known only to the state department of that country whether it is sanctioned or refused and also that as matters connected to one's identity is confidential; therefore they are not committed to make a private explanation. She has declined to make an official explanation about what happened to Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's name.
