A ban on Zimbabwe cricket has been imposed with immediate effect. The reason for this is that undue mediation of the government for Zimbabwe cricket being proved. This decision has been arrived at during a meeting of the administrative board yesterday (18) and ICC president, Sashank Manohar has informed that this ban was enforced according to Article 2.4 (c) and (d). It was pointed out that this penalty had to be imposed because Zimbabwe has failed to maintain the spirit of cricket for reasons on the basis of funds remitted to the government of Zimbabwe by ICC sometime
back being swindled, from selection of players to appointment of various positions, organisation of tournaments, representation of overseas tours and all such matters had depended on politics. As a consequence of this suspension, funds provided to Zimbabwe cricket by ICC has been stopped and Zimbabwe will not be able to participate in any match organised by the ICC. The closest matches in this respect is the women's twenty 20 tournament which is scheduled to be played in August as well as the men's cricket warming up tournament to be launched in October for which Zimbabwe would not be able to participate in.
Government of Zimbabwe has got entangled in a long-term political crisis and economic issues and the aspect of cricket which has collapsed to a very weak level as well as in many other aspects of the country was not able to even represent the 2019 world cup either.
ICC has taken decisions of this nature from time to time in order to uplift the qualitative status of cricket and ICC has enforced a ban in connection with Nepal cricket before this from June, 2015 upto January, 2019. ICC has sounded an alarm signal with regard to Sri Lanka accusing politics creeping into cricket administration and the authorities of this country were smart enough to short-circuit it before it went as far as a suspension.
