Curfew lifted at other places ... but not North West

Tuesday - 7 am Update

Curfew has been removed at other places; but not North West. The police curfew imposed throughout the island came to an end at 4 this morning, the 14th. Police curfew which was in operation at Gampaha police division ended this morning (14) at 6 o'clock. However, the police curfew imposed on North West province is still in progress. 

Monday - 8 pm Update

Police media spokesman Mr. Ruwan Gunasekera mentions that under circumstances of the prevailing
tensed situation in the country, the police curfew is in force till 4 in the morning tomorrow covering the whole island. 

7.30 pm Update

Police curfew has been effected to cover Gampaha police division from 14th to be in force till 6 in the morning. As such, police curfew will be in force to cover police divisions of Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Dompe, Gasmulla, Kirindiwela, Malwathuhitipitiya, , Nittambuwa, Pugoda, Veyangoda, Weeragula, Weliweriya, Panwela and Yakkala with immediate effect. In the same way, police curfew has been enforced to operate with immediate effect on North Western province too. Taking into consideration the situation that has emerged, superintendent of police and police media spokesman stated that police curfew would hold good until further notice until further notice.

Though the situation that flared up yesterday in Kuliyapitiya was expected to die down this morning, as a tensed situation has flared up in Kurunegala district and subsequently at several places in North Western province, this curfew was brought into force. Some commotion has taken place in Gampaha too, but police have not described these incidents.
