Army commander explains story about being ready to run government ... for short time
Some members of the public have voiced their opinion saying that the army should be given powers to rule the country at a time the country are on an unsound footing. But neither the army commander nor higher officers of the army have given indication about such thoughts. However, a post in facebook has published that army commander has come forward to accept the aforementioned idea.
Army commander lieutenant general Mahesh Senanayaka has on the other hand rejected reports
published in social media and says that he has responded to appeals made by various quarters by segments of the masses that Sri Lanka be directed towards a military government. Making a special statement to the media he states that the Sri Lankan army adhered to its duties as well as discipline and therefore the army does not get involved in any activity considered illegitimate. The army commander who draws attention to the point that the masses have accepted the army and that it is the priority of the army to provide security to the public of the country and the country itself and also that the Sri Lankan army carry out duties according to orders of 'Senadhinayakaya', the President, by respecting the constitution of the land. Therefore he finally states that under such conditions they would not go against the 'senadhinayaka' or the constitution.
