UNP and TNA kept parliament hanging and stopped our activities -- 19 days we worked, really successful -- not sufficient time to increase rupee
Opposition leader, member of parliament, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa who joined in the budget debate today (12) had explained about the last 51 days. On that occasion what he said was that 'he functioned 19 days and that that short period of time it was successful. Even then we were able to provide a number of consolations for the benefit of the public, specially in being able to bring down fuel prices twice in a satisfactory measure, the public reaped a good benefit.
Apart from that, as it was possible to once again activate fertilise consolation to a large degree and
thus offer farmers some benefits. Though we had planned to launch further consolations, because of political unstableness in parliament of both United National Party and Tamil Alliance, we have to admit that we could carry out only a limited quantity of work within those 19 days.
thus offer farmers some benefits. Though we had planned to launch further consolations, because of political unstableness in parliament of both United National Party and Tamil Alliance, we have to admit that we could carry out only a limited quantity of work within those 19 days.
We succeeded in inviting several foreign investors who would bring in about about 1000 million American dollars to the country. However, because of the dangling situation which emerged on November 14th, 2018 ... that investment was no longer to see the light of day. In the meantime, as we got no opportunity to bring about an adjustment in the Central Bank, it was not possible to lay our hands on our efforts to strengthen the rupee as such'.
