After totals of both teams of touring Sri Lanka team and South Africa tallied in the first twenty - 20 match, the judges decided to have a "super over" and South Africa was able to record a 9 run victory from that super over.

Whatever it is, the Sri Lankan captain Lasith Malinga who expressed his ideas over the match said that he is satisfied in the manner how the Sri Lanka played the game. In the media confrontation held after the match, this is what captain of the Sri Lankan team said: "Twenty - 20 matches is a series of matches which is so entertaining. In the same way I see this as a good match and I believe that all
qualities that should be there in a twenty - 20 match was present in the game. Though 130 runs is not a target that should be placed in the case of a twenty - 20 match, the strategy of two spin bowlers turned out to be a success. Though we played at a maximum level as a team ... in the end we lost the opportunity of clinching a victory. In any case I am satisfied in the way how everyone in the team played".

Lasith Malinga added further: "It was possible to reap a good experience from this match where the newcomers were able to play under pressure. No player can be found fault with for having lost this match. Every player in the team experienced strong pressure. Under such circumstances I believe that these young players got a good experience by playing under such conditions. I also think that they were able to learn a lot from this game. Though I I have gone through the mill under circumstances and instances of this nature ... I am a little old now. Though I tried to bowl with some variations in the super over ... it was not a success in that instance. On that occasion David Miller played elegantly. In a limited over game such as this ... up-and-coming bowlers have a lot to learn about variations, self confidence and patience. What I always believe in is ... any player can do something special at any particular moment. At one time I took 4 scalps in 4 balls. Something special like that can happen at any unanticipated moment by any player".
