Wife who came to know from Facebook photo that her husband had died from Marawila accident ... gives evidence
"I called at about 4.30 early morning; but even though I called at about 6, there was no answer. He left me, my daughter and the baby to be born" ... the wife of a passenger who died from the Vavuniya - Colombo bus accident which took place in the dawn of 18th in Mahawewa area said at the autopsy of the deceased which was held at Marawila Basic Hospital.
Thashmila Gihani (24) the wife of W. Anton Ranjith Namal Randika had this to say further by giving evidence: "It is now 6 years since we are married. He is engaged in the fishing trade. My husband had
some problem in one of his hands. He went in the in the early morning bus on 18th to go to Colombo General Hospital for some more check-ups also. As there was no news about Randika in the morning, I called the clinic of Colombo General Hospital also. I got news about a Mahawewa - Marawila accident in the afternoon". She then said that when she watched news in the Facebook I identified Randika from his clothes and that later she had come to Marawila Hospital. She further said that she was 8 months pregnant and that she lives in Gangewadiya, Aluth Eluwankulama.

The postmortem of two individuals were conducted the same day evening at Marawila Basic Hospital. Suneth Madhushanka, brother of deceased Randika gave evidence. "I was to go to Colombo early morning on 18th by loading fish to the lorry. At that time aiyya said that he too is going to Colombo; but I went earlier. Aiyya had left in the early morning bus. When I was returning I happened to see the Mahawewa accident. At that moment I did not know that aiyya too was in the midst of that accident.
Judicial Medical Officer Mr. Ruwan Lansakara of Marawila Basic Hospital cut open the body of the deceased and it was decided that his neck, spine and spinal cord was damaged. R.M. Vajira Chandani (35), wife of deceased Shiron Sanjaya Mendis (40) who died in the accident was resident of Siripurawaththa, Mangala Eliya, Puttalam had this to say: "It is 17 years since we are married. We have two children. My husband was to go to work early morning on Monday the 18th after coming on Saturday. Later I came to know that the bus in which he was had collided in Mahawewa. According to the medical report, the by judicial medical officer pointed out that there were multiple injuries to his skull and brain, chest and body. This postmortem was conducted at the mortuary of Marawila Hospital by Mr. Ruwan Lansakara, Judicial Medical Hospital of hat hospital. Marawila Coroner into Sudden Deaths, Mr. G.D. Nihal Pathmasiri Gurusingha gave the verdict that both these deaths was caused by a fatal traffic accident.
Three persons lost their lives from this accident when a bus travelling to Colombo from Vavuniya struch a transformer post while 19 persons sustained injuries. The other person who died was one Prakash Chandran, an Australian citizen. His postmortem was not conducted as nobody from Australian Embassy has turned up.
