Sri Lanka Cricket cover arrears ... with a win
The recent win by Sri Lanka in the first Test against South Africa last Saturday actually a matter to be consoled. On that occasion the special skill displayed by Kusal Perera came in for praise by many. Prior to this, the prowess shown by Thisara Perera some weeks back too was highly acclaimed. Whatever it is ... like Thisara, Kusal Perera in this instance has played 'to cover the arrears'; it is understood by comments
made by them.
When Thisara says that he played as tit for tat against Malinga's wife, Kusal has said that he fought because of the pressure exerted on the coach. There is in fact a vast difference between true cricketing skills and playing on aggression boosted on a personal issue and thus gaining credit. Success derived from aggression is of a temporary nature and opinion of experts is that it cannot be relied upon.
In the process, Sri Lanka cricket icon Muralitharan too has said in front of international media that Sri Lanka Cricket cannot be rejuvenated and that is due to the fault of players. A video which reveals that the game was played to cover the arrears by now keeps circulating across social media these days and that video and comments that follow after the victory was celebrated in the dressing room by cutting a cake, from below
