House where two businessmen were murdered by police and parts of burned bodies ... found in forest!

It was confirmed by last evening that the two businessmen who disappeared in Rathgama, Galle which incidentally created pandemonium all over the country a couple days back had been abducted and burned, with parts of their bodies being thrown into a forest. 

In fact, everything has transpired exactly according to contents appearing in an anonymous letter received by one of the disappeared individuals and the two police officers who were responsible for the murders are presently under custody. As a result of their confession, it has been possible to
examine the house where the victims were murdered and the forest to which parts of their burned bodies were thrown into. 

Relatives of businessmen 33 year old Manjula Asela and 31 year old Rasen Chinthaka, bot resident in Udagama, Boossa Rathna in Galle were taken away by some persons attired in police uniforms around 10 in the morning of January 23rd in a vehicle and van. As both of them had not turned up home, the kith and kin had made complained to several police stations when last 6th relatives of  the businessmen had received a letter by registered post. What was stated therein was that officer in charge of  South special unit, Rohana and police inspector Nishantha and others had taken the two of them away. 

The person called Manjula Asela is by profession engaged in selling chicken while Rasen Chinthaka is involved in selling fish as his profession. Apart from this, they had for sometime been surreptitiously involved in supplying firearms on hire and they had been taken into custody on January 23rd for questioning regarding it by officers of the South special unit. They were in possession of 4 firearms of T 56 type and 3 pistols while it was these weapons that have been used in several crimes that happened in the South during the recent past, it was reported. 

During the process of being interrogated, one of them had died on blows dealt on them and in order to cover up evidence police officers have killed the other person too, it has been revealed. Though wives of both these persons had gone to police and inquired about these two missing persons, truth had not been exposed. It was said that these women were made to rustify under these circumstances. 

After the letter received by relatives of the businessmen was forwarded to the media, subsequently reports were published continuously across the media. On a background of this nature the inspector general of police had nothing but to take a final decision. On his instructions the Criminal Investigation Department was handed over the duty of conducting inquiries last 13th with regard to this incident. 

Thus while inquiries were underway, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Southern Range was transferred to Police Headquarters with immediate effect on a temporary basis. Inspector of Police, Kapila Nishantha de Silva of South special unit was taken into custody last 18th while Sub Inspector of Police, Viraj Madusanka attached to South special unit was taken into custody yesterday the 22nd by Criminal Investigation Department. On interrogation, he has admitted that the two businessmen were murdered and that their bodies were burned. 

The location where these crimes were carried out was located yesterday (22) by Criminal Investigation Department. A certain abandoned house situated at a hillock in Gonamulla, Akmeemana, Galle supposed to have been the place where they were detained and later murdered was inspected by Galle Chief Magistrate, Mr. Harshana Kekunawela. Evidence was thus secured to say that the two businessman were kept there while burned parts of bones suspected to be of the two victims were recovered in Udadeniya Reserve, Medagangoda, Walasmulla. Walasmulla Chief Magistrate, government analyst and Matara judicial medical officer were present and the said parts of bones were subjected to inspection. What police said was that tufts of hair and a large number of parts of bones were found at that spot. Police are vigilant about other officers linked to the murder.
