Man tries to axe Punchinilame ... accusing him of irritating herd of goats

A person who tried to attack parliamentary member of Trincomalee district Mr. Susantha Punchinilame was taken into custody day before yesterday (20) evening at Ambogama area belonging to Agbopura police division, police say.

As a result of a herd of goats being disturbed by a vehicle in which the parliamentarian travelled, an

intoxicated man has lost his temper and has tried to attack the former with an axe, the complaint lodged by Mr. Punchinilame says.

In the meantime, the person concerned who was taken into custody has told police that police has come and taken him into custody when he was under treatment for his injuries at Kantale Hospital as a group of people who came with the parliamentarian had assaulted him.

On a question posed to Mr. Punchinilame in this connection, he has responded saying that he rejects the point of assault and said that the person who approached him with an axe in his hand was brought under control by his security guards. Agbopura Police are conducting inquiries with regard to this incident and the person taken into custody is expected to be produced before court.
