Fair-skinned couple kills time for 7 hours at Gampaha Station ... on behalf of injured dog!

In an era when disgusting news about people who molest even dogs are reported in Sri Lanka ... an incident of a foreign couple who came to the assistance of a dog who was subject to a mishap was reported yesterday from Gampaha.

The said couple, Josi and Shirley from Netherlands had arrived at Gampaha Railway Station from Katunayaka Airport yesterday (15) to go to Kandy in the train that leaves at  9.30 in the morning. While they were there at the station, their eyes had run towards an injured dog. his couple who saw
that one leg of the dog was injured and with compassion they
had tried phoning asking for help to secure some place where treatment could be given for the dog.

Though they had pleaded asking for assistance to take the dog away, nobody had turned up even till the railway time 9.30 elapsed. Later even as another several hours passed the anticipated assistance was not forthcoming till 4.00 in the evening, a provincial correspondent has arrived at the said railway station and after making inquiries had offered to provide assistance to them in this connection.

He had in fact contacted an animal centre and requested them to hasten. It was amazing to most people that these two foreigners had paid attention on this matter even paying scant respect to their lunch. After remaining there for six hours and twenty minutes ... around close upon 5 in the evening those who were summoned to come there had arrived.

This couple from an alien land and devoted themselves to this dog had even paid the expenses incurred in treatment for the dog. The couple had in the end offered their thanks to the police officers and the journalist. On that occasion the two of them had said they are people who show immense mercy and kindness to animals.
