Dehiwala businessman shoots himself to death

Reason: not being able to bear shock of mother's death

An incident is reported of a hotelier living down Ebenezer Mawatha, Dehiwala dying on the dawn of 20th in front of his house with gunshot injuries. 

A note indicating that this is a suicide was found and a 12 bore firearm was supposed to have been used in this case was a gun belonging to him, police say. A letter was found nearby by police and in it was mentioned that he is committing suicide and not to entertain any suspicion in connection with his
death. The said letters were both in Sinhala and English. He has stated that he is putting an end to his life this way because he is unable to bear up the shock of his mother's death. 

The deceased is a 64 year old person by the name of Krishan Munasingha, police say. The businessman had not been found in the room when inquiring at about 5.30 at dawn because of some noise and as he was later found shot in the chest lying in front of the house and subsequently Dehiwala Police had been notified. 

The hotelier who was so wounded was rushed to Kalubowila Hospital; but even by that time he had passed away, police say. This businessman's mother had passed away last 22nd and information has been received that he had been in a shock thereafter, said the police. It was further reported to police that last 28th he had told his wife that he would commit suicide after which she has hidden the firearm and after promising that he would not do so, he has once again retrieved the said gun into his possession. Mount Lavinia and Dehiwala Police are conducting investigations into the matter.
