6 die in ca - fish lorry collision in Nainamadama -- pistol in vehicle!

A crash took place around 3.15 early this morning (20) when the rear part of a fish lorry was struck by a car travelling towards Chilaw in front in the same direction. This accident took place along Chilaw Road, near Nainamadama bridge in Wennappuwa and as a consequence 9 males inside the car sustained serious injuries. They were admitted to Negombo and Marawila Hospitals and 6 of them had passed away. Two of the injured were transferred to Negombo Hospital while one other was
admitted to Colombo General Hospital. 4 corpses are lying at Marawila Hospital and 2 dead bodies are lying at Negombo Hospital.

A problematic situation has now emerged as for what purpose the said motor car has gone in that manner, In the meantime, police have been able to find a Micro-type pistol inside the vehicle and this has caused suspicion. Police say that a pistol which could use 8mm. bullets and that this pistol made in Italy had 8 bullets inside it.

It was revealed that the 6 persons who died were all residents of Wennappuwa. Those who managed to save their lives had told police that the accident had taken place when returning from a wedding festival. The deceased are, Pradeep Lowe (40) a businessman living in Ulhitiyawa, Wennappuwa, Suranga Sampath, M. Bandara, Sanjeewa Fernando and Manju Fernando. Information was received by police that persons travelling in the motor vehicle were under liquor. According to methodology of traffic accidents, the lorry driver has been taken into custody and Wennappuwa Police are conducting further investigations in this connection.
