2.50 pm Update

The debate on adjournment of sessions today is to be continued until 4.30 this evening, it is proposed to be adjourned till q tomorrow. Nalinda Jayatissa and Wijitha Herath pointed out that it was the position of the executive President which shook the country during the past 50 days and nonsensical things like this could happen whoever is entitled to that position and went on to say that consent be given to the 20th amendment and to agree to the proposal of limiting executive powers. He further said that there is no clause to divide the country found in it and if possible to prove otherwise.

1.30 pm Update

During the parliamentary proceedings, three SLFP members of parliament changed positions. Those

MPs were Vijith Wijemuni Soysa, Lakshman Seneviratna and Indika Bandaranaika. Vijith Wijemuni Soysa made an emotional speech about his cross over.

1.20 pm Update

Udaya Gammanpila and Dinesh Goonawardena expressed ideas that the argument of Mr. Sumandiran was wrong and that some years back during President Chandrika Ratnasiri Wickremanayaka was was appointed as Opposition leader when Ranil was Prime Minister. In the process what member of parliament Kiriella said was that Madam Chandrika held position of President only during that period.

Members of parliament Ajith P. Perera and Rauff Hakeem also spoke against leader of Opposition being given to Mahinda Rajapaksa. Whatever it is, as Speaker has already announced this, what he said was if necessary this issue could be forwarded in writing.

1.10 pm Update

Though the Speaker announced the name of Mahinda Rajapaksa right at the beginning of parliamentary proceedings today, Lakshman Kiriella who got up from his seat said that since the membership of parliament was changed of Mahinda Rajapaksa and his group, it is not valid and therefore to inquire about it.

In the meantime, what member of parliament of TNA.Sumanthiran said was that it has given rise to an issue when President Maithripala Sirisena of UNFA is holding the position of minister of the cabinet as leader of UNFA, why a UNFA member is made a leader of the Opposition.
