Was parliament dissolved because of impending gloom hovering over Mahinda - Maithri?
Political sources are by now revealing major reasons for parliament being dissolved last night (9). The version by way of popular opinion by now is apparently the Prime Minister being unable to achieve his anticipated majority when parliament reopens on 14th. By yesterday (9) it is not 113 but in reality it was only 68 who supported the Mahinda faction, a rumour has gone round.
When 113 happened to be 113 at the final winning post in the race ... the UNP faction was involved in a battle of winning over ministers of the Alliance, there was information to say that when parliament was called, a no confidence motion was to be launched against Prime Minister Mahinda
Rajapaksa where several MPs of Sri Lanka Freedom Party were getting ready to keep away from voting ... thus defeating Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa. In the same way, following on footsteps of Manusha Nanayakkara, reports were published that 2 state ministers were to resign from their positions of ministers this morning (10).
There had been preparations of defeating Mahinda Rajapaksa in parliament on 14th and to simultaneously bring on a no confidence motion against President Maithripala Sirisena. There also has been a discussion with 2 former ministers of the UNP, Tamil Alliance, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and some elements of SLFP and thus secure their support for this plan. As such, after parliament reopens once again on 14th, Mahinda as well as Maithri would encounter an confused state of affairs in the face of such a background. Under these circumstances it was understood that instead of toppling the government there is no alternative to dissolve parliament ... leaving it to happen. Before arriving at this decision, there had been discussions between Prime Minister and President on two occasions. It is understood that parliament was dissolved abruptly after that.
