Nobody comes from Kalubowila hospital
... until patient collapses and dies near hospital!
Nobody comes from Kalubowila hospital
An unfortunate incident is reported of a person who had been warded and under treatment at Kalubowila Teaching Hospital had come out of the ENT clinic by leaving the ward and was found several hours later, day-before-yesterday (22) collapsed on the ground at a car park down Sunandarama Road, close to the hospital where he had breathed his last. This patient has had a canula used to inject saline attached to one of his arms and was under treatment at ward 26, police say. It is also understood that he had been admitted to hospital on the day
before (21) from an ambulance and was under treatment. He had in fact collapsed when on his way to attend the clinic in the adjoining building of the hospital when he had collapsed at the car park.
The caretaker of the car park has seen the fallen patient and had informed the Kalubowila Hospital guard post and they in turn had notified the hospital authorities. However, neither a nurse nor any responsible person has cared to come over there and have a look at the person concerned. Though several hours passed by, the said patient was still lying there on the ground in the same position. The car park attendant has gone over and inspected the patient around 4 in the evening and had realised that he had passed away. This situation was then brought to the notice of the guard room of the hospital. But even after this information was conveyed to hospital authorities by the police and Kohuwala police as well; nobody had been sent from the hospital concerned -- after which police officers had visited the scene and taken the already deceased person to hospital.
Subsequently, coroner into sudden deaths, justice of the peace Mr. Parinda Kotugoda of Kalubowila Teaching Hospital has arrived and conducted an one the spot inquiry and it was advised that a postmortem be carried out. When hospital authorities were questioned in this respect, it was revealed that this person had been hospitalised for an infection in one of his ears on the 21st and he was on his way to present himself to the ENT clinic with the slip of paper bearing No. 9003/18 issued by the hospital in his person had gone on his last journey. The said slip of paper was found in his custody at the time of his death. Kohuwala police are conducting further inquiries.
