Foreigners who come to attend wedding ...
Six foreigners bathing in Trincomalee Nilaweli sea were carried away by a tidal wave this afternoon (23) and three policemen of life-saving unit on duty had managed to rescue lives of the foreigners. Among the victims were five Indian females and one American male. There had been a five year old girl among the said Indian nationals.
The six victims had shouted asking for help when they had faced this mishap and in that instance the
life-saving officers had entered the sea waters and swum to their rescue and thus had brought them to shore with the aid of a boat. On this occasion a life-saving Navy soldier too had rendered support to bring the victims to land. Those involved in rescue operations under supervision of sub-inspector Mr. Manoj Ariyaratna, officer-in-charge of the life-saving unit were constables of the life-saving squad Marasingha (30505), Samarasingha (66365) and Madhusanka (67459). The victims concerned had in fact come to attend a wedding at a hotel nearby where this accident had taken place, it is reported.
