Former Navy Commander-in-Chief who provided shelter to 'Sudu van Navy Sampath' ... to be arrested!
As an accusation of having provided shelter to Navy Sampath who was accused for 'sudu van' abductions and recently taken into custody by police, former Navy Commander and present Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratna is to be arrested and produced before court; the criminal investigation department has informed in Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday.
In accordance with clauses 209, 174, 183 of the penal code, since the former Navy Commander and present chief of defence staff, Wijegunaratna is responsible for violation of the above mentioned
clauses and therefore he would be taken into custody, it was informed in court.
When police were about to arrest the chief suspect in the case where lieutenant Chandana Prasad Hettiaarachchi had abducted 11 persons in Kotahena and for making them disappear when Mr. Wijegunaratna has evaded his arrest in helping him by providing him shelter at Navy headquarters. A Navy officer in an adjoining room to his has provided necessary evidence in this connection.
A short time previously, the former Navy Commander Ravindra Wijegunaratna was subjected to a sensation because of an incident where he used obscene language in public on a media reporter in Hambantota.
