"Confirmed and clear ... I shall never step into Politics" -- Kumar Sangakkara officially announces
What became the topic of the day on a rather wide scale during the recent past in the social media was that Sri Lanka's supreme cricketing star was preparing himself to bestow his goodwill for Politics. This topic in fact surfaced in a strong way with Imran Kahn being appointed as the the premier of Pakistan and also because the Presidential election of Sri Lanka too is on the cards shortly. Whatever it is, whenever such stories began to emerge in relation to such connected topics Sangakkara gave no proper response; but he has made a post across his Facebook Page at length
about his standing in this respect.
As mentioned therein Sangakkara has emphasised that he would in no way step into Politics. Though he is aware of reports about he coming into Politics with a view of the 2020 Presidential elections, that Politics and public service is a profession which carries a sense of heavy responsibility. He also points out that matured people fit enough for it should engage in Politics and that the masses should be intelligent enough to choose such people.
He states that there are no political aspirations in his life. Sangakkara who further points out that since he dedicated a large part of his life to the game of cricket, there was less time for him to spend time with his family and that he has decided to spend the post-cricketing period on behalf of his family. He at the same time says that he is motivated to engage in some forms of welfare-work on behalf of the public and that none of those things would be targetted towards Politics.
He has confirmed once and again in his long letter that he has no ambition to step into Politics and that he believes that Sri Lankans would choose the most suitable person for the post of President.
